Cléberson Jacinto showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from André Netto in the 7th minute of the match. After 7 minutes of play, Botafogo's André Netto made it 1-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Cléberson Jacinto was left in no man's land by his defense there! When Augusto Loureiro fell near the penalty area in the 11th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Botafogo's protests and gave Augusto Loureiro a yellow card for diving instead. After 11 played minutes Botafogo got a freekick which was hit by Augusto Loureiro. Mateus Rezende might have been able to make a better finish in the 12th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Tião Alcântara. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Mateus Rezende ran back to his position shaking his head. Grêmio's goalkeeper couldn't reach when André Netto 19 minutes into the game got a good kick on the ball which found its way into goal just inside left pole. 2-0. Tião Alcântara made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Eriberto Lira in the 24th minute of play. Cléberson Jacinto made a fantastic save in the 29th minute, when Mateus Trancoso sent off a good shot on target. Botafogo's Tião Alcântara played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Eriberto Lira in the 37th minute of play. In the 42nd minute, Matheus de Queiroz hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 43 minutes into the game, Mateus Rezende cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-2. Tião Alcântara was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. 48 minutes into the game, Cauan Severo was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Grêmio's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Botafogo the free kick. Cauan Severo kicked well hit freekick during the 48th minute of the match. The score stood at 2-2 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Mateus Rezende stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. If Eriberto Lira had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 53rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Mateus Rezende in the 57th minute of play forced Botafogo's goalkeeper Tião Alcântara to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Tião Alcântara made an important save on a dangerous shot by Eriberto Lira in the 59th minute. If Mateus Rezende had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 60th minute.
