When Abelardo Antunes came up free with the goalie in the 15th minute, the Itaguai SS fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Abelardo Antunes couldn't finish the play. The crowd rose to their feet as Itaguai SS's Serginho Lopez slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Maurício de Lara. That made the score 1-2 after 17 minutes of play. Adhemar Toledo kicked well hit freekick during the 21st minute of the match. When the match had gone on for 27 minutes, Serginho Lopez put it in 2-2 from a short distance just to the right of Maurício de Lara. Maurício de Lara made an important save on a dangerous shot by Armin Del Nero in the 31st minute. Luís Guilherme Favoretto showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cícero Simão in the 48th minute of the match.

The Itaguai SS fans' excitement grew in the 51st match minute when Itaguai SS's Armin Del Nero looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 4-3 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Catavento's Maurício de Lara played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Abelardo Antunes in the 55th minute of play. If Cícero Simão had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 58th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 66 played minutes, Itaguai SS's Marcel Dias shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Maurício de Lara came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Itaguai SS reached it.
