The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 3 minutes into the game, Humberto Schmidt cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Glauco Loureiro was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After some fancy dribbling in the 5th minute, Gildo dos Santos managed to get in a good position for a shot. Republica EC's supporters rose to their feet, but Gildo dos Santos was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Dorian Perez breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 8th minute the ball was on its way in behind Republica EC's goalkeeper Glauco Loureiro, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Geovani Faustino received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 10th minute. Dorian Perez tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Republica EC's Glauco Loureiro played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Humberto Schmidt in the 13th minute of play. 20 minutes into the match, Republica EC's goal looked a bit too open when Dalmo Tavares came free, but Glauco Loureiro reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Humberto Schmidt during the 21st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 21 played minutes Valparaiba SC got a freekick which was hit by Humberto Schmidt. When Gildo dos Santos fell near the penalty area in the 26th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Republica EC's protests and gave Gildo dos Santos a yellow card for diving instead. Gildo dos Santos kicked well hit freekick during the 26th minute of the match. Lenílson Cerezo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 37th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Glauco Loureiro made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dalmo Tavares in the 40th minute of play. Republica EC were furious when Vivaldo Terra was red carded, 45 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. In the 47th minute there was a penalty for Valparaiba SC. Kauan Cerezo stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Glauco Loureiro. 0-3.

The wind increased when Humberto Schmidt made the kick off in the second half. Edgard Meirelles's late challenge caught a Republica EC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Edgard Meirelles helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Republica EC booed when Valparaiba SC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 53 match minutes in a wonderful position. Edgard Meirelles didn't get a good kick on the ball. Humberto Schmidt sent away a hard shot on goal in the 55th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Dalmo Tavares received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 57th minute. Glauco Loureiro tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 89 minutes, Ernani Arantes mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Valparaiba SC and the Republica EC players grew even worse after the yellow card. Geovani Faustino received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 90th minute. Dorian Perez tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. With a little luck, Republica EC's Glauco Loureiro got control of the ball when Dalmo Tavares tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 93rd minute, Valparaiba SC's Dalmo Tavares ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Glauco Loureiro. Glauco Loureiro yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 0-4. If Joel Maia had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 98th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
