Jan Pająk came out of the goal and Laércio de Alcântara tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Jan Pająk made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Falcão Severo in the 11th minute of play. In the 14th minute Guga Vidal shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jan Pająk saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Laércio de Alcântara fell near the penalty area in the 15th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Jucatan EC's protests and gave Laércio de Alcântara a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Jucatan EC's Laércio de Alcântara got a free kick in the 15th minute. Dorival Pinheiro was extremely unlucky when he, in the 16th minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. After 18 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Novo Hamburgo! In the 19th minute there was a penalty for Jucatan EC. Murillo Machado stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Jan Pająk. 0-1. Dorival Pinheiro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 28th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Cristian Costa having to interfere. Dorival Pinheiro received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 32nd minute. Cristian Costa tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After having played for 38 minutes, Guga Vidal managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Jucatan EC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Guga Vidal was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Dênis Albuquerque during the 39th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Celso Rosa was extremely unlucky when he, in the 43rd minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Guga Vidal made a kick off. In the 51st minute, Durvalino Mendonça left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Novo Hamburgo fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-1. Serginho Ortiz fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 54th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Cristian Costa having to interfere. After 57 minutes, Fred Tande mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Novo Hamburgo and the Jucatan EC players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 78th minute, Guga Vidal reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Jan Pająk. The goal made the score 2-2. Dorival Pinheiro sent away a hard shot on goal in the 82nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The supporters of Novo Hamburgo booed when Jucatan EC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 85 match minutes in a wonderful position. Guga Vidal didn't get a good kick on the ball. Cristian Costa showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Dorival Pinheiro, who was totally free with the ball in the 89th minute. The final whistle blew with the score still tied, and both teams left the pitch thinking about the missed chances that could have given their team the win.
