But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Paulinho Maranhense couldn't finish the play. Nelsinho Reis kicked well hit freekick during the 27th minute of the match. After 28 played minutes, Irundi EC's Severino Guimarães shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Nestor da Mata came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Irundi EC reached it. An unexpectedly hard shot by Eugênio Brasil in the 30th minute of play forced Irundi EC's goalkeeper Fabrício de Castro to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Geroma SC's Nestor da Mata played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Paulinho Maranhense in the 31st minute of play.
