In the 18th minute the ball was on its way in behind Tomas's goalkeeper Chicão Fonseca, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Celso Guimarães sent away a hard shot on goal in the 21st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 29 played minutes Canoas United got a freekick which was hit by Renatinho Cearense. After some fancy dribbling in the 30th minute, Léo Leal managed to get in a good position for a shot. Tomas's supporters rose to their feet, but Léo Leal was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Nelson Neto breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 32 minutes into the match, Canoas United's goal looked a bit too open when Vladimir Maia came free, but Nelson Neto reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Léo Leal in the 37th minute of play forced Canoas United's goalkeeper Nelson Neto to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When the match had gone on for 39 minutes, Celso Guimarães took a quick shot and it went in 3-0 without a chance for Chicão Fonseca to make any attempt to save it. After 42 played minutes Celso Guimarães could catch the ball where he stood relatively free a bit outside the goal and without hesitation he completed 4-0 into the left cross. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 4-0 at half-time.

With a little luck, Canoas United's Nelson Neto got control of the ball when Vladimir Maia tried to sneak it across the goal line. Nelson Neto took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Léo Leal, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Canoas United's Celso Guimarães got a good chance for a goal in the 54th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Chicão Fonseca made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Celso Guimarães in the 58th minute of play. The supporters of Canoas United booed when Tomas was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 59 match minutes in a wonderful position. Vinícius de Alcântara's late challenge caught a Canoas United's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Vinícius de Alcântara helped the player get up and apologised. In the 62nd minute, Vinícius de Alcântara hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 64 minutes into the match, Tomas's goal looked a bit too open when Celso Guimarães came free, but Chicão Fonseca reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Vladimir Maia could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 74th minute of the match, but Nelson Neto made a huge save. Rogério Seco received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 78th minute. Chicão Fonseca tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 80 minutes into the match, Canoas United's goal looked a bit too open when Léo Leal came free, but Nelson Neto reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Canoas United's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
