When Jeremias Leão came up free with the goalie in the 19th minute, the Marumbi EC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Jeremias Leão couldn't finish the play. In the 21st minute, Alexsandro Torres ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Váldson Alves was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. The supporters of Marumbi EC booed when Liberdade was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 24 match minutes in a wonderful position. Carlos Fernando Santana didn't get a good kick on the ball. Geovani Vasconcelos showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Hélio Cosme in the 26th minute of the match. If Jeremias Leão had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 44th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

Liberdade's Hélio Cosme got a good chance for a goal in the 52nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 57th minute, Beto Proença hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Betão Sena missed a clear chance of a goal when in the 58 minute of the game fired away a shot, but unfortunally the ball went out to the Geovani Vasconcelos right hand side. 63 minutes into the match, Marumbi EC's goal looked a bit too open when Carlos Fernando Santana came free, but Geovani Vasconcelos reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After having played for 66 minutes, Jeremias Leão managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Marumbi EC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Jeremias Leão was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The supporters of Marumbi EC booed when Liberdade was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 67 match minutes in a wonderful position. Waldemar Bertassi didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 70th minute Carlos Fernando Santana shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Geovani Vasconcelos saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Marumbi EC's zone, Hélio Cosme stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Geovani Vasconcelos came out of the goal and Hélio Cosme tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After a rather tough play, Marumbi EC's Sílvio Quaresma got a free kick in the 72nd minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 73rd minute, Hélio Cosme managed to get in a good position for a shot. Liberdade's supporters rose to their feet, but Hélio Cosme was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Geovani Vasconcelos breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 75 minutes of play, Liberdade's Carlos Fernando Santana made it 2-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Geovani Vasconcelos was left in no man's land by his defense there! Liberdade's Hélio Cosme got a good chance for a goal in the 79th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Carlos Fernando Santana had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 80th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a rather tough play, Marumbi EC's Sílvio Quaresma got a free kick in the 81st minute. Geovani Vasconcelos came out of the goal and Carlos Fernando Santana tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Geovani Vasconcelos showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Carlos Fernando Santana, who was totally free with the ball in the 88th minute. Hélio Cosme fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 97th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Geovani Vasconcelos having to interfere. Both teams had looked equal from kick-off, and no-one was surprised when the match finally ended in a draw.
