Eduardo Quirino's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Caco Mazza read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 11th minute of play. Iuri Varela received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 12th minute. Reynaldo Moreno tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 18th minute, Iuri Varela left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Igarassu fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-0. If Fernão Queiroz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 22nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Fernão Queiroz in the 26th minute of play forced Marretas's goalkeeper Reynaldo Moreno to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Mané Cardoso kicked well hit freekick during the 27th minute of the match. Reynaldo Moreno made an important save on a dangerous shot by Iuri Varela in the 28th minute. In the 30th minute Eduardo Quirino shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Caco Mazza saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Reynaldo Moreno took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Fernão Queiroz, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Iuri Varela fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Reynaldo Moreno having to interfere. 38 minutes into the game, Alfredo Penha was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Marretas's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Igarassu the free kick. A collision led to Marretas getting a freekick after 38 minutes play. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Fernão Queiroz made a kick off. In the 51st minute Fernão Queiroz shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Reynaldo Moreno saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Iuri Varela struck a weak shot in the 54th minute. Reynaldo Moreno didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Igarassu. If Luiz Paulo da Costa had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 57th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Eduardo Quirinos short, quick shot in the 59thth minute got Caco Mazza to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. 61 minutes into the match, Marretas's goal looked a bit too open when Iuri Varela came free, but Reynaldo Moreno reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Marretas's Reynaldo Moreno played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Fernão Queiroz in the 62nd minute of play. In the 63rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Igarassu's goalkeeper Caco Mazza, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 68 minutes into the game, Mané Cardoso was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. In the 78th minute Fernão Queiroz shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Reynaldo Moreno saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The supporters of Igarassu booed when Marretas was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 78 match minutes in a wonderful position. Alfredo Penha didn't get a good kick on the ball. After having played for 80 minutes, Iuri Varela managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Igarassu's supporters crossed their fingers, but Iuri Varela was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Thanks to some nice moves Eduardo Quirino could shoot a difficult shot in the 83rd minute, which Caco Mazza however easily saved by the left post. When Telmo Pimenta fell near the penalty area in the 83rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Igarassu's protests and gave Telmo Pimenta a yellow card for diving instead. Telmo Pimenta hit a great freekick 83 minutes into the match. In the 85th minute Luiz Paulo da Costa shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Caco Mazza saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 86th minute the ball was on its way in behind Marretas's goalkeeper Reynaldo Moreno, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Alfredo Penha hit a great freekick 87 minutes into the match. For all the effort they put into the match, the Marretas players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Igarassu.
