Emílio Barral showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Marcinho Schmidt, who was totally free with the ball in the 7th minute. Silvinho de Amorim hit a great freekick 8 minutes into the match. In the 9th minute, Kiko Veiga hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Marcelo Alves was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 10th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. Ibitura SS's Emílio Barral played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Marcinho Schmidt in the 12th minute of play. After having played for 13 minutes, Marcinho Schmidt managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Sacambu SS's supporters crossed their fingers, but Marcinho Schmidt was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Joaquim Botelho made an important save on a dangerous shot by Erivaldo Peres in the 14th minute. The supporters of Ibitura SS booed when Sacambu SS was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 15 match minutes in a wonderful position. Eliézer da Cunha didn't get a good kick on the ball. 18 minutes into the game, Samuca Reis was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Sacambu SS's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Ibitura SS the free kick. The audience thought a goal was coming when Erivaldo Peres got free with Joaquim Botelho in the 20th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. If Marcinho Schmidt had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 22nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A collision led to Ibitura SS getting a freekick after 23 minutes play. Kiko Veiga hit a great ball. After a defensive mix-up in Ibitura SS's zone, Magno Carioca stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Emílio Barral came out of the goal and Magno Carioca tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Emílio Barral took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Magno Carioca, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Sacambu SS's Joaquim Botelho proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 36th minute of the match, managed to save Sacambu SS from getting a goal against them. Adalberto Vander sent away a hard shot on goal in the 46th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Adalberto Vander to make the kick off. Sacambu SS's Joaquim Botelho played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Adalberto Vander in the 53rd minute of play. If Erivaldo Peres had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 57th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Eliézer da Cunha's late challenge caught a Ibitura SS's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Eliézer da Cunha helped the player get up and apologised. In the 65th minute the ball was on its way in behind Sacambu SS's goalkeeper Joaquim Botelho, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Emílio Barral made a fantastic save in the 67th minute, when Marcinho Schmidt sent off a good shot on target. Sacambu SS's Magno Carioca got a good chance for a goal in the 70th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Emílio Barral took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Magno Carioca, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. With a little luck, Ibitura SS's Emílio Barral got control of the ball when Marcinho Schmidt tried to sneak it across the goal line. After a rather tough play, Ibitura SS's Olavo Cosme got a free kick in the 82nd minute. Joaquim Botelho tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Erivaldo Peres sent away a hard shot on goal in the 96th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance.
