But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Sílvio Luiz Félix couldn't finish the play. In the 27th minute, Renan Carioca hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Aírton Meira fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Luiz Paulo Vander having to interfere. After 31 minutes, Glauco Pinheiro mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Jardineira SS and the Aiuaba players grew even worse after the yellow card. After having played for 32 minutes, Aírton Meira managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Aiuaba's supporters crossed their fingers, but Aírton Meira was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 33rd match minute, Jardineira SS was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ciro Meireles to maneuver through the defense. Aírton Meira recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 34th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 40 minutes into the match, Aírton Meira dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Luiz Paulo Vander, 1-0. Tostão Lira, 46 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. If Aírton Meira had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 48th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Aírton Meira made a kick off. Duarte Pombal sent away a hard shot on goal in the 57th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Luiz Paulo Vander showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Sílvio Luiz Félix, who was totally free with the ball in the 64th minute. In the 67th minute, Tostão Lira hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 75 played minutes Geraldo Coelho could catch the ball where he stood relatively free a bit outside the goal and without hesitation he completed 1-2 into the left cross. Luizinho Abreu's late challenge caught a Jardineira SS's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Luizinho Abreu helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Jardineira SS booed when Aiuaba was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 78 match minutes in a wonderful position. Luizinho Abreu didn't get a good kick on the ball. Geraldo Coelho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 88th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Eduardo Moreira having to interfere. Jardineira SS's Luiz Paulo Vander played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Aírton Meira in the 92nd minute of play. Luiz Paulo Vander showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Aírton Meira in the 93rd minute of the match. 99 minutes into the game, Geraldo Coelho recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Eduardo Moreira. Geraldo Coelho showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-3. Jardineira SS's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
