With a little luck, Paraibao SS's Edgard Pinheiro got control of the ball when Acácio Pena tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 7th match minute, Paraibao SS was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Abelardo de Toledo to maneuver through the defense. Edgard Pinheiro was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 11th minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Paulão Leal. If Acácio Pena had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 14th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 14th match minute, Paraibao SS was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ian Braga to maneuver through the defense. Paulo Travassos was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 15th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. If Afonsinho de Medeiros had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 18th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Dráusio Leão fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 20th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Evandro Silveira having to interfere. Afonsinho de Medeiros received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 26th minute. Edgard Pinheiro tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Edgard Pinheiro came out of the goal in the 28th minute to try and stop a shot by Adalberto's Silvinho Tasso. But to his dismay, Silvinho Tasso quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dráusio Leão in the 38th minute of play forced Adalberto's goalkeeper Evandro Silveira to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Luiz Paulo Botelho fell near the penalty area in the 41st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Paraibao SS's protests and gave Luiz Paulo Botelho a yellow card for diving instead. Luiz Paulo Botelho kicked well hit freekick during the 41st minute of the match. Paraibao SS's Luiz Paulo Botelho got his second yellow card of the match in the 45th minute. The referee ordered Luiz Paulo Botelho off the ground. The supporters of Adalberto booed when Paraibao SS was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 46 match minutes in a wonderful position. Luiz Paulo Botelho didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 49 minutes Paraibao SS's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Paulo Travassos who took care of the corner kick. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Afonsinho de Medeiros to make the kick off. If Afonsinho de Medeiros had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 59th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 62nd minute, Tostão Neves hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After some fancy dribbling in the 69th minute, Acácio Pena managed to get in a good position for a shot. Adalberto's supporters rose to their feet, but Acácio Pena was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Edgard Pinheiro breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Luiz Fabiano Dracena fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 71st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Edgard Pinheiro having to interfere. 74 minutes into the match, Patrício Saraiva had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Evandro Silveira. Adalberto's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Patrício Saraiva was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-2. Edgard Pinheiro made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Afonsinho de Medeiros in the 79th minute of play. Adalberto's Evandro Silveira proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 81st minute of the match, managed to save Adalberto from getting a goal against them. If Dráusio Leão had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 83rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Dráusio Leão received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 85th minute. Evandro Silveira tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After having played for 88 minutes, Dráusio Leão managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Paraibao SS's supporters crossed their fingers, but Dráusio Leão was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal.
