But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tomé de Barros couldn't finish the play. 0-1 became the score in the 6th minute when Leopoldo de Souza elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. With a little luck, Surubim AD's Vítor Pitta got control of the ball when Tomé de Barros tried to sneak it across the goal line. Vítor Pitta showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Osvaldinho Cardozo in the 18th minute of the match. Leopoldo de Souza might have been able to make a better finish in the 20th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Fabrício Perez. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Leopoldo de Souza ran back to his position shaking his head. Jeremias Massa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 30th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fabrício Perez having to interfere. Oséias Recife hit a great freekick 36 minutes into the match. After a rather tough play, Surubim AD's Waldir Arruda got a free kick in the 44th minute. In the 46th minute, Gilmar Chaves hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Pedro Luís Pereira, 47 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

Vítor Pitta showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tomé de Barros in the 60th minute of the match. Fabrício Perez made a fantastic save in the 71st minute, when Jeremias Massa sent off a good shot on target. 79 minutes into the match, Crystaes SS's goal looked a bit too open when Leopoldo de Souza came free, but Fabrício Perez reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Jeremias Massa might have been able to make a better finish in the 80th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Fabrício Perez. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Jeremias Massa ran back to his position shaking his head. If Leopoldo de Souza had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 82nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Bebeto Pirani took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 89th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Vítor Pitta. Surubim AD's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. In the 90th minute, Surubim AD's Leopoldo de Souza ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Fabrício Perez. Fabrício Perez yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 0-2. Surubim AD's Vítor Pitta played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tomé de Barros in the 94th minute of play.
