Amanaiara AD's Bernardinho Proença played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tibúrcio Arósio in the 5th minute of play. 12 minutes into the match, Malu's goalkeeper Chico Sampaio had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Fernão Cruz. The supporters of Amanaiara AD booed when Malu was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 13 match minutes in a wonderful position. Kléber Montenegro didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Clóvis Vidal had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 14th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. The crowd rose to their feet as Fernão Cruz kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Chico Sampaio. That made the score 1-0 in the 16 minute of play. Clóvis Vidal fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 23rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Chico Sampaio having to interfere. Bernardinho Proença made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tibúrcio Arósio in the 26th minute of play. In the 28th match minute, Malu was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Elias Azevedo to maneuver through the defense. Bernardinho Proença took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tibúrcio Arósio, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 38th minute, André Luís Tasso got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 40th minute, Tibúrcio Arósio ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Bernardinho Proença was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-1. In the 45th match minute, Amanaiara AD was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Adalmo Sampaio to maneuver through the defense. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

When André Luís Tasso came up free with the goalie in the 53rd minute, the Malu fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that André Luís Tasso couldn't finish the play. José Tróia kicked well hit freekick during the 55th minute of the match. Bernardinho Proença showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tibúrcio Arósio in the 69th minute of the match. 71 minutes into the match, Malu's goal looked a bit too open when Clóvis Vidal came free, but Chico Sampaio reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Chico Sampaio made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Clóvis Vidal in the 73rd minute of play. 76 minutes into the game, Fernão Cruz cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-1. Chico Sampaio was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Fernão Cruz sent away a hard shot on goal in the 81st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 82 played minutes Malu got a freekick which was hit by Jardel Rezende. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Fernão Cruz in the 84th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Chico Sampaio prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Arlindo Loureiro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 86th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Bernardinho Proença having to interfere. The audience thought a goal was coming when André Luís Tasso got free with Bernardinho Proença in the 89th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Bernardinho Proença made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tibúrcio Arósio in the 90th minute of play. In the 91st minute Tibúrcio Arósio shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bernardinho Proença saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Fernão Cruz fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 94th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Chico Sampaio having to interfere. If Fernão Cruz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 97th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Malu's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
