The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Silas de Amorim struck a weak shot in the 4th minute. Giovanni Koehler didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Tesouras AD. In the 12th minute Noel Prestes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Edmílson Maia saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Edmílson Maia stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Noel Prestes's shot from short distance in the 13th minute. 18 minutes into the game, Curytiba SC's Noel Prestes nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Edmílson Maia made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. Anselmo Ramos charged in rather forcefully in the 20th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Anselmo Ramos the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After a rather tough play, Curytiba SC's Anselmo Ramos got a free kick in the 20th minute. When Laércio Lago came up free with the goalie in the 23rd minute, the Tesouras AD fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Laércio Lago couldn't finish the play. The attack was good, but when Silas de Amorim in the 24th minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. In the 27th minute of the match, Laércio Lago got a very nice opportunity to score, but Giovanni Koehler was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. 29 minutes had been played when some careless play by Curytiba SC's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Laerte Pontes was slow to take the kick. During this time Tesouras AD's players had a chance to rest. The corner led Tesouras AD's Laerte Pontes to fire away a dangerous shot which Giovanni Koehler despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. In the 31st minute, Noel Prestes got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. A hard shot 33 in the game by Laércio Lago from a close distance when the talented Giovanni Koehler managed to make a qualified save. Curytiba SC's players were relieved. In the 40th minute, one of Tesouras AD:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Tesouras AD. Edmílson Maia had in the 41stth minute some difficulties stopping Rui Palmeira's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. Gino Ferraz fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 46th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Edmílson Maia having to interfere. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Silas de Amorim was the one to do the kick off. Edmílson Maia took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gino Ferraz, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Noel Prestess short, quick shot in the 56thth minute got Edmílson Maia to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. In the 63rd match minute, Tesouras AD was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Erasmo Silva to maneuver through the defense. When Noel Prestes came up free with the goalie in the 64th minute, the Curytiba SC fans jumped to their feet. Noel Prestes could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 84th minute of the match, but Edmílson Maia made a huge save. In the 85th minute, Baltazar Araújo got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 86th minute, Kléber Sena hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Curytiba SC's Noel Prestes got a good chance for a goal in the 93rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 94th minute, Robinho Ribeiro hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field.
