Seating: 8, VIP seats: 0) It was fairly windy and cold on the field when José Maria Valladares kicked off to start the match. 2 minutes into the game, Dênis Arruda was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Cornelius's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Vargen the free kick. After a rather tough play, Cornelius's Dênis Arruda got a free kick in the 3rd minute. Cornelius's Artur Lopez got a good chance for a goal in the 6th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. With a little luck, Cornelius's Zacarias Neiva got control of the ball when Reynaldo Trigo tried to sneak it across the goal line. If Aílton Tasso had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 10th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of Cornelius booed when Vargen was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 14 match minutes in a wonderful position. Toninho da Costa didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a rather tough play, Vargen's João Augusto Paulista got a free kick in the 21st minute. Dário Trancoso was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 21st played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. When Aílton Tasso came up free with the goalie in the 23rd minute, the Cornelius fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Aílton Tasso couldn't finish the play. 29 minutes into the match, Aílton Tasso notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of Vargen's Simão Guedes. Simão Guedes was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Zacarias Neiva showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from José Maria Valladares, who was totally free with the ball in the 35th minute. Cornelius were furious when Leonardo Saraiva was red carded, 38 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests.
The wind increased when Artur Lopez made the kick off in the second half. Erivaldo Montenegro recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 52nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Augusto Furtado kicked well hit freekick during the 60th minute of the match. 64 minutes into the match, Cornelius's goal looked a bit too open when Reynaldo Trigo came free, but Zacarias Neiva reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. José Maria Valladares sent away a hard shot on goal in the 65th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If José Maria Valladares had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 71st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Simão Guedes made a fantastic save in the 75th minute, when Artur Lopez sent off a good shot on target. Cornelius's Zacarias Neiva played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by José Maria Valladares in the 78th minute of play. In the 82nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Cornelius's goalkeeper Zacarias Neiva, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Fabiano Arantes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 86th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Simão Guedes having to interfere. José Maria Valladares struck a weak shot in the 90th minute. Zacarias Neiva didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Vargen. Dênis Arruda kicked well hit freekick during the 91st minute of the match. José Maria Valladares received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 96th minute. Zacarias Neiva tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The Cornelius players were the happier at the end of the match as they had prevented Vargen from taking control. The game ends in a draw.
