After 16 minutes, Ramiro da Silveira mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Ardeira EC and the Marinheiros players grew even worse after the yellow card. The audience was convinced that Elano Fontes's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Filipe Arósio was relentless in the 20th minute of the game. After 53 played minutes Marinheiros got a freekick which was hit by Alex Correia. After a defensive mix-up in Marinheiros's zone, Elano Fontes stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Filipe Arósio came out of the goal and Elano Fontes tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. A collision led to Ardeira EC getting a freekick after 57 minutes play. Evandro Leite hit a great ball. José Carlos Paulista struck a weak shot in the 59th minute. Luiz Paulo Freitas didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Marinheiros. Elano Fontes received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 61st minute. Filipe Arósio tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
