If Pedrão Maia had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 13th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Filipe Arósio took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Elano Tepedino, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 20 minutes, Carlos Eduardo Araújo mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Marinheiros and the Maturuca EC players grew even worse after the yellow card. Carlos Eduardo Araújo kicked well hit freekick during the 20th minute of the match. After 21 played minutes, Maturuca EC's Afonsinho Sena shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Filipe Arósio came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Maturuca EC reached it. An unexpectedly hard shot by Elano Tepedino in the 41st minute of play forced Marinheiros's goalkeeper Filipe Arósio to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Márcio Veloso showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ernesto Pereira, who was totally free with the ball in the 45th minute. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Filipe Arósio showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Elano Tepedino in the 59th minute of the match. Pedrão Maia blasted a shot towards the goal in the 63rd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Filipe Arósio having to make a save. With an all-out effort, Maturuca EC's Filipe Arósio threw himself towards the right post 64 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Elano Tepedino, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Filipe Arósio made a fantastic save in the 67th minute, when Pedrão Maia sent off a good shot on target. 69 minutes into the match, Marinheiros's Ernesto Pereira sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Márcio Veloso narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After a defensive mix-up in Maturuca EC's zone, José Carlos Paulista stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Márcio Veloso came out of the goal and José Carlos Paulista tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 73rd minute, Carlos Eduardo Araújo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Elano Tepedino was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 74th minute. Maturuca EC's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. After 79 minutes of play, Marinheiros's Ernesto Pereira made it 2-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Márcio Veloso was left in no man's land by his defense there! Christiano França kicked well hit freekick during the 81st minute of the match. Filipe Arósio made an important save on a dangerous shot by Pedrão Maia in the 86th minute. Márcio Veloso made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from José Carlos Paulista in the 90th minute of play. In the 92nd minute, Ernesto Pereira made a precise shot to the right of Márcio Veloso. Maturuca EC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 3-0. Ernesto Pereira sent away a hard shot on goal in the 95th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Marinheiros's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
