When the match had gone on for 33 minutes, Ediberto Pontes took a quick shot and it went in 3-1 without a chance for Jorge Meira to make any attempt to save it. Império's Dráusio Ortiz got a good chance for a goal in the 37th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. A hard shot by Eduardo Gomes from long distance, 38 minutes into the match, got Jorge Meira's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. In the 44th minute Dráusio Ortiz shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jorge Meira saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 3-1.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Ediberto Pontes stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 57th minute, Império's Cafu Moura seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Cafu Moura the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Império protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Cafu Moura had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. In the 60th minute Kauã Penha shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Luís Paulo Garcia saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 64 minutes into the match, Dráusio Ortiz had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Jorge Meira. Mangaba's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Dráusio Ortiz was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 4-2. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Dráusio Ortiz couldn't finish the play. After some careless play in the Mangaba defense, Dráusio Ortiz kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Jorge Meira. The Mangaba fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Jorge Meira should have stopped the shot. Jerônimo Sampaio hit a great freekick 81 minutes into the match. Dráusio Ortiz took the ball and in the 82 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Jorge Meira. Jorge Meira dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 6-2. Jorge Meira made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Júlio Donatello in the 87th minute of play. Império's defense didn't have a chance, in the 90th minute, when Pedro Luís Xavier scored to the left of an out of position Luís Paulo Garcia, making the score, 6-3. When Júlio Donatello came up free with the goalie in the 94th minute, the Império fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Júlio Donatello couldn't finish the play.
