Durval Saraiva made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. Durval Saraiva showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Denílson Antunes, who was totally free with the ball in the 7th minute. Dedé Paiva made a fantastic save in the 10th minute, when Anísio Abreu sent off a good shot on target. Baireiro SS's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Nando Peixoto in the 12th minute. Nando Peixoto made a great header on Baireiro SS's corner, it was just that Paraguari EC's Dedé Paiva managed to reach the ball for a save. Paraguari EC's Dedé Paiva proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 14th minute of the match, managed to save Paraguari EC from getting a goal against them. In the 16th minute, Anísio Abreu got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Durval Saraiva showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Marquinhos Moreira in the 26th minute of the match. Durval Saraiva stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Marquinhos Moreira's shot from short distance in the 27th minute. When Luís Fernando Ferreira fell near the penalty area in the 27th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Baireiro SS's protests and gave Luís Fernando Ferreira a yellow card for diving instead. Marquinhos Moreira fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 30th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Durval Saraiva having to interfere. In the 32nd minute Denílson Antunes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Durval Saraiva saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When the match had gone on for 35 minutes, Edgar Alvarenga took a quick shot and it went in 1-1 without a chance for Dedé Paiva to make any attempt to save it. 40 minutes into the game, Paulo Faria was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Paraguari EC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Baireiro SS the free kick. After 41 played minutes Paraguari EC got a freekick which was hit by Paulo Faria. In the 43rd minute Luís Fernando Ferreira managed to get in a great position but fired away a sharp shot that went outside the goal on the goalie's right hand side. It could just as well have been a goal. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Dedé Paiva stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Anísio Abreu's shot from short distance in the 54th minute. If Marquinhos Moreira had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 63rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Edgar Alvarenga came up free with the goalie in the 64th minute, the Baireiro SS fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Edgar Alvarenga couldn't finish the play. Paraguari EC's Dedé Paiva played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Edgar Alvarenga in the 68th minute of play. In the 71st minute the ball was on its way in behind Baireiro SS's goalkeeper Durval Saraiva, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Dedé Paiva took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Edgar Alvarenga, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Anísio Abreu sent away a hard shot on goal in the 76th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 78thth minute of the game Anísio Abreu who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Paraguari EC's Dedé Paiva was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. When Denílson Antunes came up free with the goalie in the 80th minute, the Paraguari EC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Denílson Antunes couldn't finish the play. Edgar Alvarenga received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 85th minute. Dedé Paiva tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Edgar Alvarenga had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 94th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The final whistle blew with the score still tied, and both teams left the pitch thinking about the missed chances that could have given their team the win.
