The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Sandro Coelho showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Caco Fernandez, who was totally free with the ball in the 4th minute. 8 minutes into the match, Pitanga's goal looked a bit too open when Virgílio Alves came free, but Diamantino Lara reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The supporters of Coritiba FC booed when Pitanga was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 12 match minutes in a wonderful position. Romeu Teixeira didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Virgílio Alves had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 13th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 15 played minutes Pitanga got a freekick which was hit by Laércio de Queirós. Jeferson Marques hit a great freekick 20 minutes into the match. In the 22ndth minute of the game Caco Fernandez who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Coritiba FC's Sandro Coelho was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 26th minute the ball was on its way in behind Pitanga's goalkeeper Diamantino Lara, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. If Adelino Sanches had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 29th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 38 minutes into the match, Pitanga's goal looked a bit too open when Virgílio Alves came free, but Diamantino Lara reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Adelino Sanches received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 42nd minute. Diamantino Lara tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Diamantino Lara took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Virgílio Alves, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Adelino Sanches sent away a hard shot on goal in the 46th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Virgílio Alves's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Diamantino Lara read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 86th minute of play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Jeferson Marques in the 87th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Diamantino Lara prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Percy Vergílio hit a great freekick 88 minutes into the match. Virgílio Alves fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 89th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Diamantino Lara having to interfere. Diamantino Lara made an important save on a dangerous shot by Virgílio Alves in the 93rd minute. Adelino Sanches sent away a hard shot on goal in the 95th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 96 minutes into the game, Laércio de Queirós was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Pitanga's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Coritiba FC the free kick. In the 96th minute, Laércio de Queirós hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The Pitanga fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Coritiba FC were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
