Serginho Britto made an important save on a dangerous shot by Ciro Salgado in the 4th minute. A collision led to Guarulhas getting a freekick after 4 minutes play. Anísio Vieira hit a great ball. Ciro Salgado sent away a hard shot on goal in the 6th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 7 played minutes Brigue got a freekick which was hit by Vitório Donato. If Telmo Luz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 10th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Alfredinho Gonçalves took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ademir Breckenfeld, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When the match clock showed 16 minutes, the score became 0-1 when Telmo Luz sped through Brigue's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Alfredinho Gonçalves. If Telmo Luz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 20th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The audience thought a goal was coming when Ciro Salgado got free with Serginho Britto in the 23rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 30 minutes into the game, Luís Fonseca was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Guarulhas's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Brigue the free kick. In the 30th minute, Luís Fonseca hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Ciro Salgado sent away a hard shot on goal in the 31st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Brigue's Clóvis de Almeida in the 33rd minute got a chance for a shot 33rd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Guarulhas's goalie prevented a goal. Ramón Rocha hit a great freekick 33 minutes into the match. In the 37th minute the ball was on its way in behind Guarulhas's goalkeeper Serginho Britto, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The crowd rose to their feet as Brigue's Clóvis de Almeida slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Serginho Britto. That made the score 2-1 after 45 minutes of play.

Alfredinho Gonçalves took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ademir Breckenfeld, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Alfredinho Gonçalves made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Walmir Mendonça in the 59th minute of play. 64 minutes into the match, Guarulhas's goal looked a bit too open when Clóvis de Almeida came free, but Serginho Britto reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. A collision led to Guarulhas getting a freekick after 64 minutes play. Anísio Vieira hit a great ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Clóvis de Almeida in the 66th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Serginho Britto prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Ademir Breckenfeld's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Alfredinho Gonçalves read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 70th minute of play. 72 minutes into the match, Brigue's Ciro Salgado sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Serginho Britto narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Clóvis de Almeida might have been able to make a better finish in the 75th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Serginho Britto. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Clóvis de Almeida ran back to his position shaking his head. The supporters of Brigue booed when Guarulhas was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 76 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ramón Rocha didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Clóvis de Almeida in the 86th minute of play forced Guarulhas's goalkeeper Serginho Britto to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Tostão da Costa had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 89th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Guarulhas's Serginho Britto played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ciro Salgado in the 91st minute of play. With a little luck, Brigue's Alfredinho Gonçalves got control of the ball when Telmo Luz tried to sneak it across the goal line. Brigue's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
