GUARANI FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Samuel Mota was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Samuel Mota who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 15thth minute tested the skills of Edmundo Antunes when he managed to save the team from getting behind. If Oséas Pena had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 16th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 19th minute, Germano Silva ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Nilson Romero was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. Nilson Romero stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Germano Silva's shot from short distance in the 22nd minute. The audience was convinced that Germano Silva's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Nilson Romero was relentless in the 30th minute of the game. 32 minutes into the match, GUARANI FC's Fiori Hermes sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Edmundo Antunes narrowly saved just below the crossbar. When Remo Gonçalves fell near the penalty area in the 33rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. GUARANI FC's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. After the first half Ibitiuna were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

GUARANI FC's defense didn't have a chance, in the 54th minute, when Oséas Pena scored to the left of an out of position Nilson Romero, making the score, 0-2. After a rather tough play, GUARANI FC's Samuca Cunha got a free kick in the 58th minute. 59 minutes into the match, GUARANI FC's goalkeeper Nilson Romero had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Germano Silva. In the 60th match minute, Ibitiuna was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Cipriano Ribeiro to maneuver through the defense. 62 minutes into the game, Samuel Mota cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-2. Cipriano Ribeiro's late challenge caught a GUARANI FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Cipriano Ribeiro helped the player get up and apologised. Samuel Mota succeeded in the game's 87th minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 2-2. Ibitiuna's Edmundo Antunes played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Fiori Hermes in the 95th minute of play. The final whistle blew with the score still tied, and both teams left the pitch thinking about the missed chances that could have given their team the win.
