The referee ignored Caranaiba's protests and gave Erivaldo Senna a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Caranaiba's Erivaldo Senna got a free kick in the 11th minute. Cafu Pernambucano took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Eliseu Goiano, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Walmyr Leão made a kick off. Cafu Porto's late challenge caught a Lombas SC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Cafu Porto helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Lombas SC booed when Caranaiba was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 52 match minutes in a wonderful position. Cafu Porto didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 53rd minute of the match, Eliseu Goiano tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Cafu Pernambucano saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. In the 56th minute, Antônio Carlos Marques hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field.
