During this time Praiba's players had a chance to rest. A well-hit corner resulted in Nildo Ribeiro heading the ball towards the goal, but to his dismay he misdirected it and missed the goal completely. In the 17th minute, Nildo Ribeiro got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 18 minutes into the match, Praiba's Custódio Correia sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Zé Roberto Brito narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Custódio Correia charged in rather forcefully in the 20th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Custódio Correia the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 46 played minutes Praiba got a freekick which was hit by Erivaldo Romero. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Nildo Ribeiro was the one to do the kick off. Tenentes's Dino Costa got a good chance for a goal in the 90th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After a defensive mix-up in Tenentes's zone, Nildo Ribeiro stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Zé Roberto Brito came out of the goal and Nildo Ribeiro tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 97th minute of the match, Antônio Carlos Guimarães tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Ismael Baptista saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Tenentes walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
