Joaquim Melo showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Juvenal Torres in the 17th minute of the match. 18 minutes into the match, Kings of Leon's goal looked a bit too open when Jerônimo Varela came free, but Wigalf Borkowski reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 19th match minute, Kings of Leon was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Hugo Simão to maneuver through the defense. After 23 played minutes Kings of Leon got a freekick which was hit by Juvenal Torres. When Hugo Simão fell near the penalty area in the 31st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Kings of Leon's protests and gave Hugo Simão a yellow card for diving instead. In the 31st match minute, Kings of Leon was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Hugo Simão to maneuver through the defense. In the 32nd minute of the match Donato Nunes sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Wigalf Borkowski skillfully saved the ball. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Jerônimo Varela to make the kick off. Paulo Pirani charged in rather forcefully in the 54th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Paulo Pirani the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After a rather tough play, Itanhomi's Paulo Pirani got a free kick in the 54th minute. 55 minutes into the match, Kings of Leon's Severino de Medeiros broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jerônimo Varela in the 57th minute of play forced Kings of Leon's goalkeeper Wigalf Borkowski to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Juvenal Torres fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 68th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Joaquim Melo having to interfere. After 70 played minutes Itanhomi got a freekick which was hit by Fábio de Medeiros. After 76 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Itanhomi! The referee gave Kings of Leon a penalty, 79 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Severino de Medeiros, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Itanhomi's Joaquim Melo. 0-2. In the 86th minute Aloísio Duarte shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Wigalf Borkowski saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Fábio de Medeiros might have been able to make a better finish in the 93rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Wigalf Borkowski. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Fábio de Medeiros ran back to his position shaking his head. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Kings of Leon had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
