Lenílson Vides's late challenge caught a Carolinense FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Lenílson Vides helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Sapiranga getting a freekick after 7 minutes play. Lenílson Vides hit a great ball. Edmundo Diass short, quick shot in the 8thth minute got Roberto Carneiro to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Magno Lima recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 9th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Magno Lima sent away a hard shot on goal in the 11th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 12 played minutes Carolinense FC got a freekick which was hit by Edson Custódio. Edmundo Dias's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Roberto Carneiro read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 16th minute of play. Leopoldo Saldanha struck a weak shot in the 18th minute. Roberto Carneiro didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Carolinense FC. Roberto Carneiro stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Edmundo Dias's shot from short distance in the 19th minute. Edmundo Dias's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 21stth minute, Roberto Carneiro skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. In the 22nd minute, Amauri Catarinense hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 26th minute, Doni Cruz left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Sapiranga fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Oscar Tono in the 30th minute of play forced Sapiranga's goalkeeper Roberto Carneiro to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Edmundo Dias who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 33rdth minute tested the skills of Roberto Carneiro when he managed to save the team from getting behind. If Francisco Chico had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 34th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 37 minutes into the match, Sapiranga's goal looked a bit too open when Edmundo Dias came free, but Roberto Carneiro reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Edmundo Dias in the 42nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Roberto Carneiro saved Sapiranga from getting behind. When Magno Lima came up free with the goalie in the 43rd minute, the Sapiranga fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Magno Lima couldn't finish the play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Edmundo Dias in the 46th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Roberto Carneiro prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Roberto Carneiro made an important save on a dangerous shot by Leopoldo Saldanha in the 47th minute. After the first half Sapiranga were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Edmundo Dias to make the kick off. The supporters of Sapiranga booed when Carolinense FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 55 match minutes in a wonderful position. Francisco Chico didn't get a good kick on the ball. With a little luck, Carolinense FC's 崔榕树 got control of the ball when Doni Cruz tried to sneak it across the goal line. When the match had gone on for 61 minutes, Doni Cruz put it in 0-2 from a short distance just to the right of 崔榕树. 64 minutes into the match, Sapiranga's goal looked a bit too open when Edmundo Dias came free, but Roberto Carneiro reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The audience was convinced that Edmundo Dias's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Roberto Carneiro was relentless in the 66th minute of the game. After some fancy dribbling in the 67th minute, Leopoldo Saldanha managed to get in a good position for a shot. Carolinense FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Leopoldo Saldanha was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Roberto Carneiro breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. A collision led to Carolinense FC getting a freekick after 74 minutes play. Afonsinho Cearense hit a great ball. Magno Lima received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 75th minute. 崔榕树 tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Magno Lima had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 85th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Carolinense FC's 崔榕树 played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Amauri Catarinense in the 88th minute of play. The Sapiranga supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Sapiranga would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
