In the 11th minute, one of Severinia:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Severinia. Benê de Medeiross short, quick shot in the 21stth minute got Paulo José Sampaio to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. After a rather tough play, Severinia's Alan Negri got a free kick in the 21st minute. When Reginaldo Lira came up free with the goalie in the 25th minute, the Severinia fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Reginaldo Lira couldn't finish the play. A collision led to Tapaiuna getting a freekick after 26 minutes play. Toninho de Souza hit a great ball. Toninho de Souza sent away a hard shot on goal in the 29th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 35 minutes into the match, Severinia's goal looked a bit too open when Gil do Valle came free, but Paulo José Sampaio reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Benê de Medeiros sent away a hard shot on goal in the 38th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Tapaiuna's Beto Vianna played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Reginaldo Lira in the 39th minute of play. Severinia's Juvenal do Nascimento got a good chance for a goal in the 40th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Benê de Medeiros could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 45th minute of the match, but Paulo José Sampaio made a huge save. Paulo José Sampaio took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gil do Valle, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Juvenal do Nascimento to strike the kick off in the second half. Tapaiuna's defense didn't have a chance, in the 52nd minute, when Juvenal do Nascimento scored to the left of an out of position Beto Vianna, making the score, 1-2. Paulo José Sampaio showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Benê de Medeiros in the 57th minute of the match. After having played for 59 minutes, Chiquinho Gomes managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Severinia's supporters crossed their fingers, but Chiquinho Gomes was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 61 minutes into the match, Tapaiuna's goalkeeper Beto Vianna had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Reginaldo Lira. Benê de Medeiros sent away a hard shot on goal in the 63rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a rather tough play, Severinia's Zé Augusto Souza got a free kick in the 64th minute. Paulo José Sampaio showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Benê de Medeiros in the 67th minute of the match. Reginaldo Lira struck a weak shot in the 73rd minute. Beto Vianna didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Severinia. Alan Negri fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 76th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Beto Vianna having to interfere. Perivaldo Porto's late challenge caught a Tapaiuna's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Perivaldo Porto helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Severinia getting a freekick after 78 minutes play. Perivaldo Porto hit a great ball. Bernardinho Guerra might have been able to make a better finish in the 79th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Paulo José Sampaio. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Bernardinho Guerra ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 83rd minute, Gil do Valle left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Tapaiuna fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-2. After some careless play in the Severinia defense, Benê de Medeiros kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Paulo José Sampaio. The Severinia fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Paulo José Sampaio should have stopped the shot. Severinia's Perivaldo Porto shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 94th minute of play. The shot was stopped by Beto Vianna but with some difficulty. When Juvenal do Nascimento came up free with the goalie in the 95th minute, the Severinia fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Juvenal do Nascimento couldn't finish the play.
