Oscar Guerra kicked well hit freekick during the 7th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Maurinho Mello in the 16th minute of play forced Arruda's goalkeeper Tomé Simões to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 17th minute, Mazinho Senna hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Paulo Dracena in the 18th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Tomé Simões saved Arruda from getting behind. The audience was convinced that Paulo Dracena's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Tomé Simões was relentless in the 22nd minute of the game. Macuripary's Alessandro Corrêa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Mazinho Senna in the 28th minute of play. In the 32nd minute Paulo Dracena shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tomé Simões saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 33 minutes into the match, Macuripary's goal looked a bit too open when Mazinho Senna came free, but Alessandro Corrêa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Macuripary's Alessandro Corrêa proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 35th minute of the match, managed to save Macuripary from getting a goal against them. Alessandro Corrêa made a fantastic save in the 37th minute, when Kaká Recife sent off a good shot on target. Kaká Recife was extremely unlucky when he, in the 39th minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

If Edgard Faria had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 51st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 60 played minutes Macuripary got a freekick which was hit by Washington Arantes. In the 64th minute, Edgard Faria hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Mazinho Senna in the 66th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Alessandro Corrêa prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The supporters of Arruda booed when Macuripary was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 66 match minutes in a wonderful position. Washington Arantes didn't get a good kick on the ball. 67 minutes into the match, Arruda's Kaká Recife sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Alessandro Corrêa narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Edgard Faria's late challenge caught a Arruda's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Edgard Faria helped the player get up and apologised. Edgard Faria kicked well hit freekick during the 68th minute of the match. Tomé Simões stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Maurinho Mello's shot from short distance in the 74th minute. 79 minutes into the match, Macuripary's Maurinho Mello sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Tomé Simões narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 81st minute Maurinho Mello shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tomé Simões saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Maurinho Mello came up free with the goalie in the 85th minute, the Macuripary fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Maurinho Mello couldn't finish the play. In the 90th minute, Kaká Recife made a precise shot to the right of Alessandro Corrêa. Macuripary's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-0. Arruda's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
