Nicolas Mendonça showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Sydney Lima, who was totally free with the ball in the 14th minute. Paissandu's supporters crossed their fingers, but Álvaro Gaspar was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Sydney Lima ran back to his position shaking his head. Álvaro Gaspar recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 43rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Maurinho Meireles kicked well hit freekick during the 49th minute of the match. Nicolas Alagoano made an important save on a dangerous shot by Remo Britto in the 51st minute. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Gino Guimarães was the one to do the kick off. Paissandu's Álvaro Gaspar got a good chance for a goal in the 57th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After a defensive mix-up in Babilonia's zone, Álvaro Gaspar stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Nicolas Mendonça came out of the goal and Álvaro Gaspar tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. If Gilvan Penha had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 62nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Gino Guimarães came up free with the goalie in the 88th minute, the Babilonia fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Gino Guimarães couldn't finish the play. In the 94th minute, Gino Guimarães hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Sydney Lima came up free with the goalie in the 97th minute, the Paissandu fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Sydney Lima couldn't finish the play.
