When Fernando Terra came up free with the goalie in the 4th minute, the Fumbica FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Fernando Terra couldn't finish the play. Darley Taffarel made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alessandro Breckenfeld in the 6th minute of play. If Válter Sampaio had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 8th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Germano Mello fell near the penalty area in the 9th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Fumbica FC's protests and gave Germano Mello a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Breozinho booed when Fumbica FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 10 match minutes in a wonderful position. Germano Mello didn't get a good kick on the ball. 43 minutes into the match, Fernando Terra had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Dé Galvão. Breozinho's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Fernando Terra was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. Válter Sampaio recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 46th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After the first half Fumbica FC were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

During the 54th minute of the match Cléber Nascimento completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Cléber Nascimento a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. A collision led to Breozinho getting a freekick after 55 minutes play. Cléber Nascimento hit a great ball. Fernando Terra fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 59th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dé Galvão having to interfere. Fernando Terra was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 65th minute. Fumbica FC's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. 71 minutes into the match, Breozinho's goalkeeper Dé Galvão had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Fernando Terra. Cauã Faustino received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 81st minute. Darley Taffarel tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 83rd match minute, Fumbica FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Benedito Netto to maneuver through the defense. In the 93rd match minute, Fumbica FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Germano Mello to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by Válter Sampaio in the 94th minute of play forced Fumbica FC's goalkeeper Darley Taffarel to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
