Emanuel Torres didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Célio Carneiro went, in the 21st minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. Colinas AD's Emanuel Torres played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Washington Meirelles in the 30th minute of play. Through an outstanding action, after 34 minutes, Nuno Barreto successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. After a rather tough play, Atenas FC's Túlio Rosa got a free kick in the 41st minute. Dionísio Sarmento kicked well hit freekick during the 45th minute of the match. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Washington Meirelles to make the kick off. Célio Carneiro received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 62nd minute. Emanuel Torres tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Washington Meirelles recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 65th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Atenas FC's Washington Meirelles got a good chance for a goal in the 67th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Nuno Barreto showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ernani Arósio, who was totally free with the ball in the 72nd minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 74th minute, Washington Meirelles managed to get in a good position for a shot. Atenas FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Washington Meirelles was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Emanuel Torres breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Nuno Barreto showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gláuber Lago, who was totally free with the ball in the 77th minute. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 78th minute of the game. One of Atenas FC:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Colinas AD:s goal. Gláuber Lago fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 82nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nuno Barreto having to interfere. Gláuber Lago might have been able to make a better finish in the 92nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Nuno Barreto. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Gláuber Lago ran back to his position shaking his head. Célio Carneiro received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 95th minute. Emanuel Torres tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Gláuber Lago had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 97th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Nuno Barreto made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gláuber Lago in the 99th minute of play. The Atenas FC supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Atenas FC would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
