The crowd rose to their feet as Macaroca's Dudu Sarmento slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Clóvis Miranda. That made the score 1-0 after 3 minutes of play. Wilton de Amaral showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rômulo Mendes in the 9th minute of the match. In the 11th minute of the match, Alessandro Vidal got a very nice opportunity to score, but Clóvis Miranda was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. The supporters of Oriental booed when Macaroca was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 13 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jeferson Aguiar didn't get a good kick on the ball. Chiquinho Guerra received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 22nd minute. Wilton de Amaral tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 23 minutes into the match, Macaroca's goal looked a bit too open when Chiquinho Guerra came free, but Wilton de Amaral reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Rômulo Mendes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 26th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Wilton de Amaral having to interfere. The supporters of Macaroca booed when Oriental was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 29 match minutes in a wonderful position. Hortêncio Mello didn't get a good kick on the ball. Chiquinho Mendes charged in rather forcefully in the 34th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Chiquinho Mendes the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 35 played minutes Oriental got a freekick which was hit by Chiquinho Mendes. 37 minutes into the game, Alessandro Vidal cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-0. Clóvis Miranda was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. If Chiquinho Guerra had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 41st minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Chiquinho Guerra in the 43rd minute of play forced Macaroca's goalkeeper Wilton de Amaral to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 47th minute, Alessandro Vidal got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Chiquinho Guerra was the one to do the kick off. Clóvis Miranda showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Dudu Sarmento in the 65th minute of the match. In the 67th minute, Chiquinho Guerra fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Wilton de Amaral, passed just outside the right post. Jefferson Quaresma hit a great freekick 68 minutes into the match. Oriental's Belchior Vasconcelos shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 69th minute of play. The shot was stopped by Wilton de Amaral but with some difficulty. Macaroca's Wilton de Amaral proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 74th minute of the match, managed to save Macaroca from getting a goal against them. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 75th minute of the game. One of Macaroca:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Oriental:s goal. Wilton de Amaral went to the wrong direction when Belchior Vasconcelos was taking care of the penalty kick which however missed the goal. Rômulo Mendes struck a weak shot in the 81st minute. Wilton de Amaral didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Oriental. Chiquinho Guerra succeeded in the game's 82nd minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 2-1. Macaroca's Wilton de Amaral played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Chiquinho Guerra in the 87th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dudu Sarmento in the 91st minute of play forced Oriental's goalkeeper Clóvis Miranda to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
