After some fancy dribbling in the 18th minute, João Paulo Ribeiro managed to get in a good position for a shot. Botinho FC's supporters rose to their feet, but João Paulo Ribeiro was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Gilson Mesquita breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. If João Paulo Ribeiro had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 42nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Itatiaiussu's Serginho Tande got a good chance for a goal in the 47th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Serginho Tande was the one to do the kick off. After 52 played minutes Botinho FC got a freekick which was hit by Túlio Salles. After having played for 80 minutes, Sandro Negri managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Botinho FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Sandro Negri was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Gilson Mesquita showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Sandro Negri in the 86th minute of the match. Sandro Negri fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 92nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gilson Mesquita having to interfere. When the match was over Botinho FC could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Itatiaiussu throughout the match.
