The supporters of Pilar booed when C A RIVER PLATE was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 7 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ovidio Llin didn't get a good kick on the ball. With a little luck, Pilar's Pablo Aimar got control of the ball when Santiago Pietro tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 11th match minute, Pilar was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Arnaldo Geleberto to maneuver through the defense. Cristobal Faro charged in rather forcefully in the 12th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Cristobal Faro the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Cecilio Astigar was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 18 minutes into the match. In the 25th minute, Santiago Pietro reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Pablo Aimar. The goal made the score 2-0. Santiago Pietro's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 27thth minute, Pablo Aimar skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. A hard shot 34 in the game by Santiago Pietro from a close distance when the talented Pablo Aimar managed to make a qualified save. Pilar's players were relieved. Adolfo Osorio recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 36th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nunez Hechter in the 39th minute of play forced Pilar's goalkeeper Pablo Aimar to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Rigoberto Iaki blasted a shot towards the goal in the 44th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Jeremias Bonadona having to make a save. 48 minutes into the match, C A RIVER PLATE's goal looked a bit too open when Rigoberto Iaki came free, but Jeremias Bonadona reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.

Pablo Aimar showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Nunez Hechter, who was totally free with the ball in the 53rd minute. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Rigoberto Iaki in the 55th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Jeremias Bonadona saved C A RIVER PLATE from getting behind. Pablo Aimar stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Santiago Pietro's shot from short distance in the 62nd minute. Rigoberto Iaki received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 64th minute. Jeremias Bonadona tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Rigoberto Iaki fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 86th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jeremias Bonadona having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in C A RIVER PLATE's zone, Rigoberto Iaki stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jeremias Bonadona came out of the goal and Rigoberto Iaki tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. If Rigoberto Iaki had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 91st minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. After a defensive mix-up in C A RIVER PLATE's zone, Rigoberto Iaki stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jeremias Bonadona came out of the goal and Rigoberto Iaki tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Pilar's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
