The audience thought a goal was coming when Carmelo Bizen got free with Ramon Jerardo in the 14th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 17 minutes into the match, Aibar's goal looked a bit too open when Claudio Caniggia came free, but Ramon Jerardo reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Mauro Zárate in the 18th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Ramon Jerardo saved Aibar from getting behind. 21 minutes into the match, Carmelo Bizen dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Ramon Jerardo, 1-0. With a little luck, Aibar's Ramon Jerardo got control of the ball when Carmelo Bizen tried to sneak it across the goal line. Kacper Burdalski fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 31st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gaston Lawrence having to interfere. If Antonio Anaya had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Antonio Anaya made a kick off. Ramon Jerardo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Claudio Caniggia in the 53rd minute of play. Ramon Jerardo showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Mauro Zárate in the 73rd minute of the match. Antonio Anaya who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 82ndth minute tested the skills of Gaston Lawrence when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Gaston Lawrence showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Antonio Anaya, who was totally free with the ball in the 86th minute.
