Edelmiro Ekain took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Hermengildo Medero, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 6th minute Mauro Rios shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Angel Tab saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Baldomero Lonzo in the 9th minute of play forced Pichincha's goalkeeper Edelmiro Ekain to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With a little luck, Zapla AFC's Angel Tab got control of the ball when Gilberto Valerio tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 14th minute, Julian Vergaray got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Gilberto Valerio received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 15th minute. Angel Tab tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Julian Vergaray recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 17th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luis Beila in the 23rd minute of play forced Pichincha's goalkeeper Edelmiro Ekain to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When the match had gone on for 36 minutes, Julian Vergaray took a quick shot and it went in 1-1 without a chance for Angel Tab to make any attempt to save it. In the 40th minute of the match Leopoldo Barto sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Edelmiro Ekain skillfully saved the ball. If Gilberto Valerio had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 42nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Pichincha's Edelmiro Ekain played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Hermengildo Medero in the 46th minute of play. Edelmiro Ekain showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Baldomero Lonzo, who was totally free with the ball in the 47th minute. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The wind increased when Baldomero Lonzo made the kick off in the second half. Edelmiro Ekain made a fantastic save in the 56th minute, when Hermengildo Medero sent off a good shot on target. In the 61st minute the ball was on its way in behind Zapla AFC's goalkeeper Angel Tab, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Pichincha's Julian Vergaray got a good chance for a goal in the 89th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 91st minute of the game. One of Zapla AFC:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Pichincha:s goal. The referee gave Pichincha a penalty, 94 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Angel Romildo, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Zapla AFC's Angel Tab. 3-2. Paulo Larra took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 97th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Edelmiro Ekain. Pichincha's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Pichincha's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
