Denis Virila made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-0. Schalke 04's Miltiadis Parios got a good chance for a goal in the 14th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. A collision led to Quebrachitos getting a freekick after 23 minutes play. Desiderio Enekoitz hit a great ball. Schalke 04's Denis Virila played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Abelardo Baristo in the 26th minute of play. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Laurens Appel to make the kick off. After 53 minutes of play, Schalke 04's Laurens Appel made it 2-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Carmelo Mattin was left in no man's land by his defense there! After a rather tough play, Schalke 04's Laurens Appel got a free kick in the 57th minute. Denis Virila showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gilberto Beltxe in the 63rd minute of the match. Denis Virila made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Delmar Guillelme in the 67th minute of play. Schalke 04's Denis Virila played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gilberto Beltxe in the 71st minute of play. 72 minutes into the game, Abelardo Baristo was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gilberto Beltxe in the 92nd minute of play forced Schalke 04's goalkeeper Denis Virila to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Denis Virila took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Delmar Guillelme, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Schalke 04's supporters were dissatisfied at the end of the match because Quebrachitos had won, even though Schalke 04 had held more of the ball.
