With 6 minutes on the clock, Benigno Quin commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. 5 minutes into the game, one of Gimnasia y esgrima:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Venancio Platon came out of the goal in the 12th minute to try and stop a shot by Classon's Honorio Gonchan. But to his dismay, Honorio Gonchan quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. Fidel Seber's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Onur-Recep Muslera read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 17th minute of play. Flavio Astudillo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 19th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Onur-Recep Muslera having to interfere. Venancio Platon was out of position in the 23 minute of play, and Ruben Firme capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Ruben Firme really showed his touch with that goal: 2-0. Gimnasia y esgrima's defense didn't have a chance, in the 26th minute, when Ruben Firme scored to the left of an out of position Venancio Platon, making the score, 3-0. Paulino Seme charged in rather forcefully in the 29th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Paulino Seme the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Paulino Seme hit a great freekick 29 minutes into the match. After a defensive mix-up in Gimnasia y esgrima's zone, Feliberto Sein stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Venancio Platon came out of the goal and Feliberto Sein tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 35th minute the ball was on its way in behind Gimnasia y esgrima's goalkeeper Venancio Platon, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Paulino Seme's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Onur-Recep Muslera read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 39th minute of play. In the 41st match minute, Gimnasia y esgrima was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Fidel Seber to maneuver through the defense. 45 minutes into the game, Cesar Moise threw the ball into play from the sideline. Gimnasia y esgrima's Francisco Urtsin quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. Ruben Firme's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 46thth minute, Venancio Platon skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Fidel Seber to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 53rd minute, Paulino Seme left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Gimnasia y esgrima fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 3-1. If Fidel Seber had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 57th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Ruben Firme took the ball and in the 60 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Venancio Platon. Venancio Platon dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 4-1. Venancio Platon made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ruben Firme in the 66th minute of play. 69 minutes into the match, Gimnasia y esgrima's goal looked a bit too open when Ruben Firme came free, but Venancio Platon reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Gimnasia y esgrima's Venancio Platon played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ruben Firme in the 72nd minute of play. The supporters of Gimnasia y esgrima booed when Classon was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 75 match minutes in a wonderful position. Mauro Larra didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a rather tough play, Classon's Mauro Larra got a free kick in the 77th minute. Classon's attentive Feliberto Sein managed to snatch the ball when Antonio Maties made a throw-in in the 81st minute of the game. After a rather tough play, Gimnasia y esgrima's Paulino Seme got a free kick in the 81st minute. 88 minutes into the game, Baldomero Vito cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 5-1. Venancio Platon was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Ruben Firme fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 92nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Venancio Platon having to interfere. Classon's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
