Gilberto Montes charged in rather forcefully in the 8th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. After some fancy dribbling in the 10th minute, Celestino Donostia managed to get in a good position for a shot. Lafinur's supporters rose to their feet, but Celestino Donostia was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Emilio Hitzeder breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. With a little luck, Independiente's Emilio Hitzeder got control of the ball when Celestino Donostia tried to sneak it across the goal line. 17 minutes into the match, Dorival Mandrak had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Emiliano Gines. Lafinur's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Dorival Mandrak was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. Emilio Hitzeder took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Uriel Roland, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The supporters of Independiente booed when Lafinur was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 26 match minutes in a wonderful position. Victor Mon didn't get a good kick on the ball. 32 minutes into the game, Independiente's Nereo Panfilo nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Emiliano Gines made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-2. When Angelo Sanchez fell near the penalty area in the 35th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Lafinur's protests and gave Angelo Sanchez a yellow card for diving instead. After 36 played minutes Lafinur got a freekick which was hit by Angelo Sanchez. After a defensive mix-up in Lafinur's zone, Nereo Panfilo stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Emiliano Gines came out of the goal and Nereo Panfilo tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Nereo Panfilo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 38th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-2.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Uriel Roland stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. A collision led to Independiente getting a freekick after 55 minutes play. Gilberto Montes hit a great ball. Emiliano Gines made an important save on a dangerous shot by Nereo Panfilo in the 61st minute. Robustiano Orti kicked well hit freekick during the 63rd minute of the match. Emiliano Gines didn't succeed in stopping the ball in the 72nd minute, which inside left pole to 0-3. Nereo Panfilo scored 0-4 in the 77th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Emiliano Gines, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Independiente's supporters crossed their fingers, but Anderson Arósio was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal.
