The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The supporters of Calamar booed when Toros fire was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 2 match minutes in a wonderful position. Clemente Austin didn't get a good kick on the ball. Toros fire's Basilio Ferran played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tiburcio Viviano in the 3rd minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 5th minute, Clemente Austin managed to get in a good position for a shot. Toros fire's supporters rose to their feet, but Clemente Austin was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. David Gurutz breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 9 minutes into the match, Calamar's goal looked a bit too open when Tadeo Bartoleme came free, but David Gurutz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After having played for 11 minutes, Clemente Austin managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Toros fire's supporters crossed their fingers, but Clemente Austin was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Abelardo Bibiano hit a great freekick 14 minutes into the match. In the 18th minute Ermegildo Gumaro shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Basilio Ferran saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ian Fransson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 20th minute. David Gurutz tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Modesto Rexino kicked well hit freekick during the 21st minute of the match. Basilio Ferran made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rodolfo Blasco in the 22nd minute of play. 22 minutes into the match, Rodolfo Blasco had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Basilio Ferran. Toros fire's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Rodolfo Blasco was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. Basilio Ferran made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tiburcio Viviano in the 26th minute of play. Ermegildo Gumaro took the ball and in the 28 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Basilio Ferran. Basilio Ferran dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. David Gurutz made an important save on a dangerous shot by Clemente Austin in the 36th minute. Basilio Ferran took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ermegildo Gumaro, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 44 played minutes Toros fire got a freekick which was hit by Modesto Rexino. In the 44th minute, Efrain Gudesteo got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Basilio Ferran showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ermegildo Gumaro, who was totally free with the ball in the 46th minute. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-2.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Tiburcio Viviano to make the kick off.
