Elpidio Perutxo didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Palermo FC. 4 minutes into the match, River Plate's goal looked a bit too open when Denis Olo came free, but Elpidio Perutxo reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Denis Olo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 6th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Denis Olo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 12th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Denis Olo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 14th minute. Elpidio Perutxo tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The crowd rose to their feet as Palermo FC's Francisco Salbatore slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Elpidio Perutxo. That made the score 1-0 after 17 minutes of play. Amadeo Mateo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 20th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Leonel Buinton having to interfere. Denis Olo's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Elpidio Perutxo read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 26th minute of play. In the 26th match minute, River Plate was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Amadeo Mateo to maneuver through the defense. Francisco Salbatore fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 27th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Elpidio Perutxo having to interfere. Elpidio Perutxo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Hipolito Lugo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Elpidio Perutxo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Denis Olo, who was totally free with the ball in the 40th minute. An unexpected shot in the 43rd minute by Francisco Salbatore got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. After having played for 46 minutes, Baldomero Iratxo managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. River Plate's supporters crossed their fingers, but Baldomero Iratxo was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Denis Olo stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After some careless play in the River Plate defense, Denis Olo kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Elpidio Perutxo. The River Plate fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Elpidio Perutxo should have stopped the shot. In the 59th minute Hipolito Lugo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Elpidio Perutxo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Palermo FC's Victoriano Piarres pulled a muscle in his back after 61 minutes and couldn't finish the game. Santiago Xabat charged in rather forcefully in the 61st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Santiago Xabat the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Santiago Xabat kicked well hit freekick during the 62nd minute of the match. After having played for 66 minutes, Gilberto Fliz managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Palermo FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Gilberto Fliz was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 68th match minute, Palermo FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Francisco Salbatore to maneuver through the defense. After a defensive mix-up in River Plate's zone, Hipolito Lugo stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Elpidio Perutxo came out of the goal and Hipolito Lugo tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Baldomero Iratxo kicked well hit freekick during the 73rd minute of the match. Francisco Salbatore fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 77th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Elpidio Perutxo having to interfere. Baldomero Iratxo charged in rather forcefully in the 84th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Baldomero Iratxo the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 84th minute, Baldomero Iratxo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Francisco Salbatore fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 87th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Elpidio Perutxo having to interfere. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Palermo FC fully deserved thier win.
