San Martín de Tucumán's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Deportes Sur F.V. the free kick. Florentino Orixe fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 37th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mario Clementi having to interfere. If Ciro Cutberto had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 39th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of Deportes Sur F.V. booed when San Martín de Tucumán was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 44 match minutes in a wonderful position. Teodosio Gonza didn't get a good kick on the ball. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Ciro Cutberto to make the kick off. Diego Roano came out of the goal and Fernando Corderun tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After some careless play in the San Martín de Tucumán defense, Ciro Cutberto kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Mario Clementi. The San Martín de Tucumán fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Mario Clementi should have stopped the shot. The audience was convinced that Ciro Cutberto's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Mario Clementi was relentless in the 80th minute of the game. In the 82nd minute, Fernando Corderun ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Diego Roano was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-3. 88 minutes into the match, Fernando Corderun had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Diego Roano. Deportes Sur F.V.'s manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Fernando Corderun was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-3. Florentino Orixe who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 95thth minute tested the skills of Mario Clementi when he managed to save the team from getting behind.
