After a defensive mix-up in Independencia's zone, Rodrigo Elequemedo stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Gavino Nevada came out of the goal and Rodrigo Elequemedo tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Everardo Celino charged in rather forcefully in the 11th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. After having played for 16 minutes, Rodrigo Elequemedo managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Gavino Nevada tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 39 minutes into the match, Ernesto Poncio dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Gavino Nevada, 2-0. 46 minutes into the match, Independencia's goalkeeper Gavino Nevada had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Rodrigo Elequemedo. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-0 at half-time.

With a little luck, Gauchos de Boedo's Paolo Bastian got control of the ball when Luciano Ferrando tried to sneak it across the goal line. Ernesto Liher charged in rather forcefully in the 60th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. Hector Jordy took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 72nd minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Gavino Nevada. Independencia's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. In the 73rd minute, Luciano Ferrando got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Rodrigo Elequemedo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 74th minute. Gavino Nevada tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After some careless play in the Independencia defense, Ernesto Poncio kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Gavino Nevada. The Independencia fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Gavino Nevada should have stopped the shot. Gavino Nevada showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rodrigo Elequemedo in the 80th minute of the match.
