Jorge Alvarez fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 3rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fabio Maria having to interfere. The supporters of Carolina booed when Merlongas was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 6 match minutes in a wonderful position. Victor Guillerme didn't get a good kick on the ball. Carlos Urtats could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 9th minute of the match, but Fabio Maria made a huge save. Fabio Maria showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jorge Alvarez in the 10th minute of the match. After a defensive mix-up in Merlongas's zone, Carlos Urtats stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Fabio Maria came out of the goal and Carlos Urtats tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When the match had gone on for 14 minutes, Jorge Alvarez took a quick shot and it went in 1-0 without a chance for Fabio Maria to make any attempt to save it. In the 21st of the match, Jorge Alvarez tried to place the ball in the upper right corner, but Fabio Maria got in the way and made a wonderful save. After some careless play in the Merlongas defense, Carlos Urtats kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Fabio Maria. The Merlongas fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Fabio Maria should have stopped the shot. A collision led to Merlongas getting a freekick after 25 minutes play. Zacarias Loren hit a great ball. In the 28th minute of the match, Jorge Alvarez tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Fabio Maria saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Fabio Maria showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jorge Alvarez, who was totally free with the ball in the 30th minute. Fabio Maria made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jorge Alvarez in the 32nd minute of play. Carlos Urtats received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 36th minute. The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Jorge Alvarez to strike the kick off in the second half. An unexpectedly hard shot by Carlos Urtats in the 61st minute of play forced Merlongas's goalkeeper Fabio Maria to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Damian Laurendi had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 62nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Fabio Maria took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Antonio Guillem, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Carlos Urtats recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 85th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If Felix Uhin had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 88th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Carolina fans cheered their team off the field, for while Merlongas had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
