After a defensive mix-up in UD Las Palmas's zone, Gualterio Mambru stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Neşat Refet came out of the goal and Gualterio Mambru tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Pedro Abarca might have been able to make a better finish in the 44th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Neşat Refet. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Pedro Abarca ran back to his position shaking his head. After a rather tough play, UD Las Palmas's Paolo Johans got a free kick in the 45th minute.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Serafino Kaiet to make the kick off. When Luciano Sanduru fell near the penalty area in the 51st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick.
