Phillip Deveraux took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Stephen Stockton, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Rory Wilkinson's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Gaz Newman read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 8th minute of play. In the 9thth minute of the game Harvey Colbert who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Woodley United's Gaz Newman was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Gaz Newman took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Rory Wilkinson, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 11th minute, Cliff West made a precise shot to the right of Phillip Deveraux. Ashton-in-Makerfield's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-1. Ashton-in-Makerfield's Phillip Deveraux played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jude Endean in the 15th minute of play. 18 minutes into the match, Ashton-in-Makerfield's goal looked a bit too open when Cliff West came free, but Phillip Deveraux reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 19 played minutes Woodley United got a freekick which was hit by Stephen Stockton. In the 20th minute of the match Harvey Colbert shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Gaz Newman showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Rory Wilkinson recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 21st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After some fancy dribbling in the 23rd minute, Harvey Colbert managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ashton-in-Makerfield's supporters rose to their feet, but Harvey Colbert was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Gaz Newman breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 24th minute Rory Wilkinson shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gaz Newman saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Rory Wilkinson fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 31st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gaz Newman having to interfere. Casey Renwick struck a weak shot in the 34th minute. Phillip Deveraux didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Woodley United. The attack was good, but when Rory Wilkinson in the 36th minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. When Ashton-in-Makerfield's Rory Wilkinson in the 39th minute got a chance for a shot 39th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Woodley United's goalie prevented a goal. Phillip Deveraux made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jude Endean in the 43rd minute of play. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.
The wind increased when Rory Wilkinson made the kick off in the second half. Rory Wilkinson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 54th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Hugh Whittington's late challenge caught a Ashton-in-Makerfield's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Hugh Whittington helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, Woodley United's Hugh Whittington got a free kick in the 55th minute. Rory Wilkinson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 71st minute. Gaz Newman tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After having played for 73 minutes, Harvey Colbert managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ashton-in-Makerfield's supporters crossed their fingers, but Harvey Colbert was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 77th minute, Darren Tyler hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Gaz Newman showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Junior Ingham in the 84th minute of the match. In the 92nd match minute, Woodley United was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Cliff West to maneuver through the defense. In the 93rd minute of the match Oliver Le Tissier sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Gaz Newman skillfully saved the ball. Gaz Newman made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rory Wilkinson in the 95th minute of play.
