The referee felt a red card was in order, 8 minutes into the game, when Álfur Þorrason put in a rough tackle. After some careless play in the Virkinn Bæ defense, Olivert Andrason kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Hóseas Hlynsson. The Virkinn Bæ fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Hóseas Hlynsson should have stopped the shot. After a defensive mix-up in Virkinn Bæ's zone, Olivert Andrason stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Hóseas Hlynsson came out of the goal and Olivert Andrason tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 26th minute Snjólfur Gunnbergsson shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Svanhólm Patreksson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Olivert Andrason struck a weak shot in the 40th minute. Hóseas Hlynsson didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Djúpivogur. Olivert Andrason sent away a hard shot on goal in the 42nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Djúpivogur's Svanhólm Patreksson played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Snjólfur Gunnbergsson in the 46th minute of play. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-1.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Snjólfur Gunnbergsson stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Vilmar Eðvarsson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 51st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Snjólfur Gunnbergsson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 56th minute. Rafnar Friðþjófsson took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 71st minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Svanhólm Patreksson. Djúpivogur's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. The supporters of Virkinn Bæ booed when Djúpivogur was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 71 match minutes in a wonderful position. Vilmar Eðvarsson didn't get a good kick on the ball. In a very dangerous position, a player in Djúpivogur fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 82nd minute. Penalty! Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Björgmundur Georgsson in the 87th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Svanhólm Patreksson prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Hóseas Hlynsson was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Olivert Andrason showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 3-2 in the 89 minute of play. Virkinn Bæ were really happy, having secured the victory after a very even contest. They thanked the players of Djúpivogur for a fine match.
