Apollo Kópavogi's Hallmann Guðbjörnsson played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Lúter Svavarsson in the 25th minute of play. After 26 played minutes Apollo Kópavogi got a freekick which was hit by Lúðvíg Hansson. Reginbaldur Fanngeirsson came free with the goalkeeper in the 27th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Hallmann Guðbjörnsson could save by the left post. Engið Þingeyri's Ver Mattíasson played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Bjarmi Hjálmtýsson in the 33rd minute of play. Ver Mattíasson showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mathías Sigmundsson, who was totally free with the ball in the 37th minute. In the 41st match minute, Engið Þingeyri was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Arnljótur Oddvarsson to maneuver through the defense. Ver Mattíasson took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Bjarmi Hjálmtýsson, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The Engið Þingeyri fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Ver Mattíasson should have stopped the shot. 80 minutes into the match, Engið Þingeyri's goalkeeper Ver Mattíasson had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Bjarmi Hjálmtýsson. Apollo Kópavogi's Lúðvíg Hansson suffered a concussion in the 80th minute, after a hard challenge, and had to leave the field. 80 minutes into the game, Hilbert Hansson was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Engið Þingeyri's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Apollo Kópavogi the free kick. The supporters of Apollo Kópavogi booed when Engið Þingeyri was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 81 match minutes in a wonderful position. Hilbert Hansson didn't get a good kick on the ball. 91 minutes into the game, Bjarmi Hjálmtýsson cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-3. Ver Mattíasson was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Engið Þingeyri's Ver Mattíasson proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 95th minute of the match, managed to save Engið Þingeyri from getting a goal against them. The Engið Þingeyri supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Apollo Kópavogi's performance. The match ended with a win for Apollo Kópavogi.
