The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Eyríkur Þórarinsson didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Heiðmann Maríusarson went, in the 3rd minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. Allan Hrútsson came out of the goal and Sigurbrandur Sólbergsson tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Eyríkur Þórarinsson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Heiðmann Maríusarson in the 11th minute of play. After 13 played minutes, Þráinn Öræfi's Ingibjartur Njarðarson shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Eyríkur Þórarinsson came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Þráinn Öræfi reached it. Gaukur Reynaldsson fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 17th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Eyríkur Þórarinsson having to interfere. A collision led to Þráinn Öræfi getting a freekick after 24 minutes play. Harri Guðfinnsson hit a great ball. Samson Hjartarsson took the ball and in the 30 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Allan Hrútsson. Allan Hrútsson dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-1. Ingibjartur Njarðarson hit a great freekick 34 minutes into the match. Sigurbrandur Sólbergsson's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Allan Hrútsson read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 38th minute of play. Samson Hjartarsson fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 40th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Allan Hrútsson having to interfere. In the 44th match minute, Þráinn Öræfi was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Kolgrímur Elísson to maneuver through the defense. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Sigurbrandur Sólbergsson to strike the kick off in the second half. Allan Hrútsson took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Sigurbrandur Sólbergsson, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Sigurbrandur Sólbergsson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 58th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 60thth minute of the game Samson Hjartarsson who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Þráinn Öræfi's Allan Hrútsson was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. After 62nd play minutes Samson Hjartarsson shot 2-1, a short shot which went by Allan Hrútsson and just under the crossbar into goal. Þráinn Öræfi's Heiðmann Maríusarson got a good chance for a goal in the 70th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After 71 minutes, Bresi Andrason mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Dengsi Mývatni and the Þráinn Öræfi players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 74th minute, Heiðmann Maríusarson fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gaukur Reynaldsson in the 74th minute of play forced Dengsi Mývatni's goalkeeper Eyríkur Þórarinsson to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Gaukur Reynaldsson fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 76th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Eyríkur Þórarinsson having to interfere. Dengsi Mývatni's Eyríkur Þórarinsson played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gaukur Reynaldsson in the 79th minute of play. Þráinn Öræfi's Allan Hrútsson played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Flóki Jósepsson in the 82nd minute of play. Allan Hrútsson stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Sigurbrandur Sólbergsson's shot from short distance in the 83rd minute. The supporters of Þráinn Öræfi booed when Dengsi Mývatni was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 87 match minutes in a wonderful position. Flóki Jósepsson didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gaukur Reynaldsson in the 88th minute of play forced Dengsi Mývatni's goalkeeper Eyríkur Þórarinsson to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ingibjartur Njarðarson was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 91st played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. In the 92nd minute, Flóki Jósepsson hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field.
