The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Ratar Stað's Mías Eyjólfsson proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 3rd minute of the match, managed to save Ratar Stað from getting a goal against them. An unexpectedly hard shot by Hámundur Elísson in the 4th minute of play forced Ævar Suðureyri's goalkeeper Sigurnýjas Marvinsson to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Máni Hálfdánsson's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Mías Eyjólfsson read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 7th minute of play. Elís Benediktsson kicked well hit freekick during the 8th minute of the match. After 15 played minutes Ævar Suðureyri got a freekick which was hit by Friðbjörn Erlendsson. After some fancy dribbling in the 20th minute, Hámundur Elísson managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ratar Stað's supporters rose to their feet, but Hámundur Elísson was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Sigurnýjas Marvinsson breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. When Máni Hálfdánsson came up free with the goalie in the 23rd minute, the Ævar Suðureyri fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Máni Hálfdánsson couldn't finish the play. After some careless play in the Ævar Suðureyri defense, Hámundur Elísson kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Sigurnýjas Marvinsson. The Ævar Suðureyri fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Sigurnýjas Marvinsson should have stopped the shot. Níels Magnþórsson recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 37th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Steinmann Dagsson during the 41st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. 45 minutes into the game, Sesil Indriðason was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Ævar Suðureyri's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Ratar Stað the free kick. After a rather tough play, Ævar Suðureyri's Sesil Indriðason got a free kick in the 45th minute. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

In the 60th minute Máni Hálfdánsson shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mías Eyjólfsson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The supporters of Ævar Suðureyri booed when Ratar Stað was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 61 match minutes in a wonderful position. Elís Benediktsson didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 63 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Ævar Suðureyri! If Máni Hálfdánsson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 74th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Máni Hálfdánsson came up free with the goalie in the 77th minute, the Ævar Suðureyri fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Máni Hálfdánsson couldn't finish the play. A very good chance. Mías Eyjólfsson showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ingvaldur Elísson in the 87th minute of the match. If Hámundur Elísson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 88th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 90th play minute Níels Magnþórsson came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised Sigurnýjas Marvinsson. 1-4. 95 minutes into the match, Ævar Suðureyri's goalkeeper Sigurnýjas Marvinsson had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Níels Magnþórsson. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Ratar Stað had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
